Lisa Carney was born in Sydney Australia. Although she still has pieces of jewellery that she made when she was 7, she began her career as a travel agent. This, no doubt helping to develop the wanderlust that inspires her.
Part of the appeal of Carney’s pieces is their sense of spontaneity of being the result of a precious find gathered while walking along an exotic beach, or exploring a cultural market in a foreign land. In fact, that is how many of the pieces come about.

An antique Tahitian Lei given to Lisa by her Great Aunt was the inspiration behind a necklace that in 1997 launched her career in jewellery and accessories.
"One day as I went to wear the Lei it fell apart in my hands. Using the loose shells I created a new style, my first jewellery piece which became Mamo Jo’s signature design - the shell flower."

Lisa Carney’s new winter collection, an inspired mix of sparkling bohemian crystal, rich suede and luxurious sea pearls, which includes clean simple pieces that can be worn everyday, and more dramatic statement fashion pieces. All are extremely individual.
Lisa, from Sydney Australia, talks about her new collection:
"The inspiration behind this range has come from many different sources. Mostly, my new life in the UK. After years of endless summers taking my collections between Australia and Europe, I have settled in Warwickshire and made a family. It’s a huge contrast to living the 'surf lifestyle', and I really enjoy the culture and beautiful surroundings. I’m even enjoying the cold winters and opportunity to wear lovely coats and fashion. We live near Warwick Castle and I was fortunate enough to go to a ball there recently. My winter collection is a celebration of luxury and opulence. In regal colours, it stands out from the crowd, stomps on the mediocre and will give the wearer instant glamour, luxurious sparkle and sensual appeal.
"What fun I’ve had on my 'crystal sourcing missions' to Bohemia. I really enjoy the opportunity of working with new mediums and learning about the character of the materials."

Lisa is well known for her surf jewellery and accessory label 'mamo jo' (an ancient name given to mermaids of the Caribbean). With stores in Sydney Australia and supplying to 'Quiksilver Europe' for 7 years in the 'Surf Boom'. Her shell jewellery gained further acclaim at 'Mercedes Australian Fashion Week' where she wowed the crowds and sent the models down a poolside runway wearing 'High Heeled Flippers'.
Her fashion pieces have featured in more than 40 magazine editorials internationally and feature stories have been written about her in Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar. Stylists have used her pieces to dress stars such as Kirstin Dunst and Nicole Kidman. Warner Bros used Lisa’s designs to dress the cast of the movie 'Scooby Doo'.

This new collection is available at the 'Spirit of Christmas Fair' - 7/11 November 2007 - Olympia, London.
