Production Family

Lisa Carney Design family … and here is my wonderful production 'family' in Bali. When I first came to Bali I was struck by the natural creative skill of many of the people here, which is why, seven years ago I decided to start making my jewellery here, in "Rumah Bunga" which is Balinese for 'Flowering House'.

Many Balinese industries suffered after the Bali bombings. It was important to keep my team going during these difficult times.

I have chosen each member for her hand crafting talents and have taught them from scratch how to make my jewellery. They enjoy using their creative skills. Most are earning more than their husbands.

Lisa Carney Design family Our establishment has a crèche so the women can bring their children along with them and lunchtime is always lots of fun with the mums and the children. The women have time out whenever needed. Sometimes they choose to take work home when their personal family schedules don’t allow them to stay on site.

Lisa Carney Design family Religion and community is an important part of life in Bali and there is a ceremony for every aspect of everyday life. These photos were taken at our "blessing" by the local Hindu priest.

On the other side of the garden, the elder women are making Hindu offerings to the gods.

Lisa Carney Design family I have the greatest respect and gratitude for this wonderful group of talented women. With every new year that we visit heavenly Bali, we are delighted to see the changes that have taken place. The new buildings in the village, the extensions to the family homes, and a few of the luxuries that we in the west take for granted.

Under our cooperative working arrangements, it’s all looking great and very rewarding all around.
